Basil's Swap Shop

Basil's Swap Shop began it's run on 5 January 2008 for a scheduled series of 13 programmes.

Based on the original 1970's series of Multi-Coloured Swap Shop, the programme aimed to bring swapping up to 21st century using an interactive mix of phone and internet.

The programme was hosted by Basil Brush who is joined by CBBC's Barney Harwood and Melvin Odoom who was once one of the supporting cast on Dick and Dom in da Bungalow.

The new programme, like the original, was broadcast live on Saturday morning for one hour on BBC TWO from 9am. Other than the length of the programme the new version differs from the original by using a mix of comedy sketches and games. The programme had a star guest each week who brings in a Swap, but unlike the original was actually looking for a swap in return.

A 30 minute cut-down version of the programme was broadcast during CBBC on BBC ONE on Friday afternoon containing the games and comedy element of the programme. This cut-down version was broadcast as 'Basil's Game Show'.
